The Koolaire KDT-0400A ice maker has a corrosion-resistant finish over its exterior, and its food zone has white plastic and removable parts that support cleaning. To access the food zone, two removable screens and the door can be moved aside. A bin or dispenser must be bought separately, and a deflector is required for operation when a bin is used. This unit can produce 440 pounds of ice in near-perfect conditions but will produce 345 pounds of ice within 24 hours in a standard kitchen. It creates full-cube ice, which is ideal for almost any application. This ice type melts slowly but does not cool liquid as quickly as half-cube ice. For ice to be produced in this Koolaire KDT-0400A ice machine head, the toggle switch must be turned to its "ice" setting. Its water trough is emptied through water purge cycles, and a fan blows cold air over refrigerant lines to bring the temperature down and cool the evaporator. As the evaporator plate cools, water freezes in the individual cells to form cubes. These cubes are then released from the plate when warm refrigerant runs over the evaporator, melting the cubes’ surfaces until they fall off.
